The President last night extended his sincere greetings and good wishes to the people, on the happy occasion of the commencement of the holy month of Ramazan. He was speaking at last night’s function organised by the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs to mark the commencement of Ramazan for the year 1425 on the Hijri calendar. He also extended his greetings to the entire Islamic Ummah.

The President said that the holy month of Ramazan was a very important spiritual opportunity granted annually to the Islamic Ummah by the Almighty Allah. He pointed out that Ramazan was the month of righteousness and piety, as well as fasting, Tharaaveeh prayers and other such good deeds. He went on to note that during Ramazan the people should take greater care to lend a helping hand and be courteous towards their fellow Muslims.

The President noted that life on Earth was a very short span. He said that human beings would witness their permanent domain on the day of judgement. He said that the Almighty Allah would judge each according to his or her deeds in life. He noted the importance of the people reflecting on their own deeds, and that the holy month of Ramazan was a great opportunity to do so.

Noting that the Maldives was greeting Ramazan at a very important moment in the nation’s history, the President highlighted that the start of the work of the People’s Special Majlis was coinciding with the auspicious month of Ramazan. He expressed his confidence that the Sittings of the Special Majlis would continue very soon, and that the Members of the Special Majlis would work with sincerity and loyalty to deliberate on these important reforms for the nation.
