The Cabinet discuss ongoing activities on the diplomatic front.: "The Cabinet today discussed ongoing activities of the Government on the diplomatic front. The President spoke on recent political events in the country, and briefed members of the Cabinet on the efforts to provide information to friendly countries on the reforms that he was implementing.

The President briefed Cabinet members on the discussions that took place during his telephone conversations with the Sri Lankan President, Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, as well as his recent meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, during his private visit to Singapore.

The President went on to note that he had also spoken on the phone with the former Prime Minister and leader of the United National Party of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Mr. Don McKinnon. He also briefed members on the efforts of the Government to provide factual information on recent political developments in the Maldives to members of the European Council, prior to their recent discussions on the country.

Members of the Cabinet reflected on the work ahead in implementing the President�s reform agenda.
In today�s meeting, members were briefed by Ambassador Hassan Sobir on his recent visit to London and Brussels to meet with top officials of the European Commission and the European Parliament, and by Ambassador Lieutenant General (Ret) Anbaree Abdul Sattar on his recent visit to India to enhance relations between the Maldives and India. "
